Trying to figure what to make of the "delay" in hiring the LB coach. First answer of course is Who the hell knows, but that never stops the speculation and - oh look - we're in a forum. I'm wondering (hoping is probably more like it) if this might mean that they're trying to hook a big fish and it's taking a minute to land it. Thoughts?
Thanks for the heads-up on this, RudeDawg. I just did a quick read on the story and a search on his background. I'll be interested to see what insiders might think of this hire, but I'm guessing it's good. He's coached LBs for a long time, much of it under Alex Grinch at Wazzu, Oklahoma, and USC. I'm not a fan of Grinch per se, but Brian O. has continued to get very good gigs and to stick once hired at major football places. At both Oklahoma & USC he temporarily served as defensive co-coordinator, so the programs thought highly of him.
Recognizing that cuz the dumpster fire ST was last year, any change heralds hope for improvement - but do we have any other reasons to hope the new coach will be better?
It’s interesting seeing all these assistant coaches and their college or NFL careers being mentioned. I know it’s because they’re pretty in-experienced coaches, so what else is there to say, but I just don’t care about a coaches playing career at all.
Coaching and playing are two completely different skill sets. Fisch was a tennis player!
Luckily these guys are assistants and we likely won’t hear about them again.
While I agree being an ex pro doesn’t make you a good coach, it sure helps them relate to college players and reinforces that they know what it takes to get to the NFL. To some degree it can help create an automatic trust factor that the coach can build from.
Saw headline Zach Durfee and thought he was leaving...thankfully not.
With the say special teams coach not going off campus to recruit. Does that mean he can't call players or video conference with players too? Is he just limited to in person on campus meets?

They hired one today. Brian Odom....brother of Barry Odom formerly of UNLV and now the head coach of Purdue.

I’ll use this as an opportunity to plug the new Chat feature — that’s where I’ll be dropping smaller, immediate news items for discussion.

It just means he can't recruit while off campus.
