Michael Penix Jr. is a Heisman Trophy finalist
Thoughts on what Penix's invitation means in the context of UW history.
Michael Penix Jr. is going where no Washington Huskies quarterback has gone before — to New York City for Saturday’s Heisman Trophy ceremony.
Penix is one of four finalists for the award, along with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, the Heisman Trust announced Monday.
It could be a historic development for Washington in another way: Penix’s invitation means he won’t finish any lower than fourth in the voting. No UW player has ever finished higher than Steve Emtman’s fourth-place finish in 1991, and Emtman is the only other UW player to be named a finalist.
