Monday on Montlake: Another Jalen McMillan update, penalty explanations and more
What to know about the Washington Huskies this week.
SEATTLE — Washington coach Kalen DeBoer, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell met with reporters on Monday, primarily to look back at Saturday’s 52-42 victory over USC.
Here’s what I found most interesting, and what I think you should know as the Huskies prepare to host No. 13 Utah.
The news does not sound particularly encouraging on Jalen McMillan, who did not make the trip to USC. Grubb said the junior receiver is seeking a second opinion on his knee injury Tuesday, and they should know more about his timeline for a potential return thereafter. Don’t expect him back this week.
I asked DeBoer if there’s any chance UW would shut McMillan down.
“As of right now, I don’t think that’s what it is. He’s just been really close,” DeBoer said. “We wouldn’t have brought him back (against Oregon and Stanford) if we didn’t feel he was there, because there is a long-game picture, even for this season, as far as his involvement. … Just trying to get over the hump with him, to get to that next level to where he feels good about it, feels confident. He’s, again, not that far away. Just getting confidence in what he’s feeling is a big piece of it, too.
“I would hope that he’d be back here this season yet.”
