Montlake Musings: How much NFL talent did Chris Petersen bring to Washington?
Quite a bit, it turned out. Plus, some thoughts on UW's latest transfer additions.
Kalen DeBoer made several crucial acquisitions during his two seasons at Washington — including the very most important one — but any quick turnaround was always going to rely on players recruited by Chris Petersen.
Consider that of the 22 players who started for the Huskies in the national championship game, 17 of them originally committed to play for Petersen, their signatures spread across the 2018, 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes.
Washington’s 10-player 2024 NFL Draft class only reinforced the idea of Petersen’s influence on the Huskies’ CFP run. It also reminded that while DeBoer will be a tough act for new coach Jedd Fisch to follow — how’s 25-3 for a two-year benchmark? — it’s Petersen who established the Huskies’ modern-era recruiting standard.
