Pac-12 picks, Week 12: Huskies are underdogs in Corvallis
Washington, Oregon can clinch spots in conference title game.
Via Pac-12 sports communication whiz Jim Thornby: Washington can clinch a spot in the conference championship game this weekend by beating Oregon State, or by Utah defeating Arizona.
Oregon is the only other team that could clinch this weekend. The Ducks will do so if they beat Arizona State, and Washington beats Oregon State, and Utah beats Arizona. In that scenario, the Pac-12 title game would be set, with Washington assured of the top seed (such that it matters in a neutral-site game). It also would mean that UW and Oregon would finish the season as the only conference teams with fewer than three losses.
That would be a neat and tidy way to resolve things after last season, wouldn’t it?
This being the final year of the Pac-12 as we know it, my guess is we’ll have to wait another week for these matters to solidify — it just can’t go down that cleanly, can it? — even if the (very, very) smart money is on a UW-Oregon rematch in Las Vegas, one way or another.
Anyway, I suck at picking games again, wheezing to a 1-5 finish last week (thanks, Cal). It’s going to take a miracle these next two weeks to sniff .500.
