Pac-12 picks, Week 3: A tale of a miracle parlay
A friend used my picks at the sports book last week. It turned out OK.
While I would never — ever — promote my weekly picks as gambling advice, I do have a few friends (seriously!) who like to have fun with them from time to time.
Last weekend, it led to a nice little payday for a buddy of mine.
This person — an On Montlake subscriber, though his identity will remain anonymous — found himself at a local casino last Thursday for an unrelated reason. When he saw my picks column pop into his inbox, he decided to indulge at the sports book. He texted a photo of his ticket: a mere $5 bet on an absurd parlay of all my Pac-12 picks, with a hefty payout awaiting in the (extremely) unlikely event that each one of them hit.
Except, it wasn’t exactly my slate of picks, for two reasons that would prove absolutely crucial.
1. Washington state law does not allow bets on local college teams, so my picks of WSU +6.5 vs. Wisconsin and — more critically — UW -34.5 vs. Tulsa were out.
2. I picked Utah over Baylor at -7.5, but this particular book had Utah -7.
