Man, anytime we can relive the 2023 season is a good time!! Waiting for you to drop an Oral History of the Wins Over Oregon. Ducks fans will think we are lame for living in the past, but who cares! The 2023 season and the wins over Oregon should be celebrated amongst the Husky fan base forever.
What a run the 22 and 23 seasons were. So fun. I like where the Mich St game is ranked. Penix dismantled the Spartans defense. One of my favorite games during the streak.
Yep, that game was pure fun. The best games of course are the really important victories that went down to the wire - 2023 had several, particularly the two wins over Oregon and the Sugar Bowl semi over Texas.
But there are those other games where you're not sure how good the Dawgs are, and not sure how good the opponent is... and then the boys just wallop 'em. The Stanford game in 2016 was one of the best games like that of my life. The 2019 Las Vegas Bowl win over 23rd ranked Boise St was another - Chris Petersen's final game, they were 12-1 and we were just 7-5, and the Dawgs dominated the game 38-7.
I still say that Stanford game was one of the best games I've ever been to. It felt like the "we've arrived" game and the Huskies are on another level game. Since then, it's felt like the expectation to be great was always within reach.
Oregon flairs lost their minds when I mentioned in the OR-WI game thread last week that THREE of Coach Clicks 5 losses were to UW and maybe he just had a "UW problem"
I can happily say I was there for every one of these wins except 1 this year northwestern game (thanks fing coug fans for giving me covid).
Two of them (1 each in 22 and 23) don't remember well cause had to seek shade in 2nd half
Michigan St was great had 2 MSU fans next to me (girl & guy). She was chirping whole 1st half saying we missed a 1st down by just that much when we actually made it. Of course going to concessions at half time I had to say missed it by that much. Didn't see them in 2nd half.
ASU game was so nervous on pick 6 was just whew instead of cheering.
Yes duck game was most memorable. All the big scores were on my end of stadium. Picture of Romes TD was great especially seeing a certain reporter seemingly looking at his phone.
Do mean that pix of Rome celebrating facing the crowd and the Duck player in the foreground tumbling down? That is one of my fav Husky football pix - right up there with some of the Apple Cup Snow Bowl in Seattle pix
Number one was a no brainer. I read a comment from a Duck fan just before the 70/finger point game where that particular ducky was telling his co-fans to bend over and grab their ankles, because they were about to experience 12 years of pent up anger.
I’m not going to equate that saying in reverse for this game, but it’s safe to say they are going to try and exercise three games of demonds in 10 days. I can only hope our players can buck the odds and make some magic happen.
That may be the case, but the correct strategy is for the ducks to put all their eggs (sorry for the dad humor) into the B1G championship (which they are already guaranteed). The way the Huskies really “win” this game is to beat up on the duck’s starters, and make them real uncomfortable going into that next game. If Lanning were coaching this like an NFL mindset, he would probably do everything he could to make sure they go into that game healthy and put very little more on tape. They won’t do that, because as you mentioned their pride couldn’t handle it…but it is what they would do in the NFL under similar circumstances. Winning the conference championship and getting the bye is just too much of an advantage to not go all-in on that championship game.
I sure hope they follow that strategy. That would make it very interesting.
I could see the 'make sure guys don't get beat up philosophy' being employed, but probably not until they get a good lead. However, I doubt they hold off the playbook much. They've already played 11 games and have put so much on tape.
Thank you Christian, what a lovely walk down this memory lane. Being pragmatic for a moment I have to face that the streak is unlikely to last another year, so it's fitting that we relish each of these gifts. It's a special time to be a Husky fan, and even when the streak inevitably ends I hope we will be able to view it as simply a brief pause before the next streak begins.
It doesn't feel fair to ask the gods for one garnish, but if I did I would love to have Georgia lose at home to Georgia Tech next week so OUR Dawgs can begin next year with the longest home streak. Too much to ask, but why not... that we also upset Oregon next week so their home streak is broken as well. I'll be happy to provide a burnt offering or whatever.
The Cal game didn't have any drama but I think it's a little underrated on this list. UW absolutely dominated in a way that validated playoff hopes. The two plays you mentioned always stood out to me from last year, too.
Huskies need to play their meanest football against the ducks next week, and if nothing else make sure the ducks feel it after the game. Big hits and maximum effort every play.
This is one of those stories where you think "good heavens, all this happened in the last three years?!?!"
The only one I got to see in person was the Cal game. Ironically, I went cuz I felt it would be a special season and I wanted to see Penix and the offense live in-person. So pretty funny how that worked out. LMK the next game we need showcase defense plays to start the game and I'll see if I can be there again to provoke them.
I got COVID the week of the Oregon game and my wife went with my son instead. I watched it on television with tears in my eyes from home. We later attended the Utah game, and then the Sugar Bowl, so I would say that I broke even last year. Awesome memories. Still have the games from last season saved on my DVR.
The October 14, 2023 game vs Oregon was a big piece of the greatest "guys weekend" I have ever had. My UW freshman roommate flew in from Dallas, I flew in from the Bay Area and we actually got to watch practice that Friday morning when Pat McAfee was doing his show from the top of Husky Stadium (my roomie was a walk-on in the '97 and '98 teams, so he had connections). We saw them practice the 2-pt conversion play to the TE :) And to commemorate the epic season and the amazing weekend, a different buddy of mine put this collage together which we printed 12x18 on acrylic, which is currently hanging on my office wall where I can look at it every day! https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-7181744189049593856-AxNo?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
Of all those games the only one I really felt bad about (as in we're going to lose) was ASU. For some reason they seemed to know what we were doing all night(stealing signs perhaps?). So many people were bailing and the row behind me was practically empty. One guy was back there with his cap on backwards. I said rally cap time let's do it and went back and stood with him. Within minutes Meesh made the pick and took it to the house.
As others have said thanks for the great trip down memory lane Christian. Much appreciated these last few days without power. Go Dawgs!

They say we live in the past but talk about the last 20 years all the time

The Spartan fans on the train back to the airport were seriously dejected. I tried to make them feel better, but it wasn’t possible.
The absolute howitzer that Penix threw to Wayne Tualapapa at the pylon always jumps to mind when I think about that game. So fun.
Agree! That throw and catch were lost in the flurry of connections to multiple receivers that followed over the next 20+ games.
and what was that other loss?

That Rome touchdown was right in front of my. I always sit on the side of that end zone at the pylon essentially

Can’t argue with anything on this list. Great job!

The other UW showed the way! Bonus if we could manage what they couldn't - steal a win from them quackers!

I was at 6 of these games
Colorado
Boise st
Oregon
Utah
Applecup
USC
Dead on with #1.
The Stanford, Cal games of have higher, feels more important historically.
