Listen now | Christian and Danny react to Lincoln Riley's decision to bench Miller Moss after USC's loss at Washington. They also look back at that game and ahead to Penn State.
Hi Christian! Just finished the pod, and here's my itinerary (it should be substantially different, because I'm going with my partner and we're celebrating my 40th birthday):
Flying into Pittsburgh on Friday (tomorrow) and landing at 4:30pm I have tickets in Section SGC row BB (which I believe are club seats, hopefully they treat a visitor nicely!)
Renting a car and driving to State College where I got a hotel using points (prices were insane)
On Sunday, checking out and driving to JFK airport
Sunday: Flying from JFK -> Rome for 5 days.
Flying from Rome -> Paris for 6 days
Returning home.
Still figuring out what I'm going to do in State College, but I'm super excited to walk around the campus and checking out the tailgating.
Hey Christian! You mentioned at the end of the pod to share itineraries with you for PSU so here goes:
Firstly, I'm heading to the game from WA because my big brother, and only sibling, is a PSU alum. Plus, my parents retired to the Pocono mountains in NE PA. As a UW alum, I can't pass up this "house divided" matchup with the fam.
It is going to be a slog as you mentioned:
* Thu AM: fly to JFK (5 hrs), Thu PM: subway to Brooklyn (1 hr), stay with bro
* Fri AM: Drive to the Poconos (~ 2 hrs). Staying with the parents
* Sat PM: Rented bus and driver to take us (about 10 ppl in all) to Happy Valley (~3 hrs)
* Game Time: Tailgating, sitting in UW allotment
Do it all in reverse:
* Post Game: Bus takes us back to the Pocconos where we arrive I'm guessing at 2 AM EST
The 12 men on the field penalty in 2002 versus Michigan was also out of a timeout, and before a play in which Michigan was going to have to go for it on 4th and ten in the final 30 seconds. But the penalty (15 yards back then for 12 on the field) put Michigan in field goal range to win the game! Worst penalty in Huskies history (in my lifetime at least) for sure, and way worse than the one last week.
Question for Danny: up until now, I agree that college players are different from pro re: the leeway we give them for mistakes. BUT now players can earn more in 1-2 years than my dad, as a college professor, earned his entire decades long career. I don't keep up or know how one would know specifically what different players are getting - maybe for most it is not much. But it definitely makes it feel like players now are less just kids and more pros with all the added accountability.
NYC based! Currently (Friday evening) on an Amtrak to Philly with my partner to meet up with some alumni friends who recently moved there, then piling into their car to make the road trip tomorrow afternoon. Heading back to Philly after the game, then back to New York on Sunday. Fairly fuss free.
The trip to Rutgers on the other hand… 40 miles away, still took 2.5 hours to get home because of New Jersey Transit. It was a nice reminder for why I never fly in/out of Newark Airport.
Hi Christian! Just listened to the pod, here on Thursday on the flight of the first leg of my trip.
Connecting in Minneapolis, then going to fly to Grand Rapids, Michigan tonight near where the girlfriend lives (Kalamazoo) and I am actually moving out there in a couple months (met her at a tailgate at the Michigan State game last year).
Anyway, tomorrow (Friday) we are going to drive the 7 hours and change from there to Clearfield, Pennsylvania; 40 or so miles from State College where we’re staying. Then going to head to Softy’s deal at the bar in State College on Friday night. So another 80 miles round trip Friday & Saturday.
Getting to campus early Saturday to hopefully beat most of that traffic. Going to kill time by walking around and going to the Creamery before going back to the car and tailgating before the game. Sitting in section WCU, row 69. Will hop out early if it gets ugly to beat some of the nightmare traffic and get back to Clearfield.
Then driving the same 7 hours and change back to Kalamazoo Sunday, and flying back home Monday.

In regards to the discussion on the late penalty-

Hi Christian! Just listed to the pod on the first leg of my trip to see UW vs Penn State.
I flew from PDX to Chicago and then Chicago to Harrisburg PA. We are staying in Harrisburg.
Friday will see some sights and drive up for Softy’s show.
Saturday headed to the UWAA event at the Penn Stater and then the game. Sitting in sec WHU row 58.
Hope to see you and Danny there!
