Washington notes: Duck Week, Penix v. Nix and Midwest connections
Iowa talk during Oregon week? You bet.
From Christian: Big thanks to Shane Lantz, a UW Daily alum and freelance sportswriter (and substitute teacher) who was willing to step in and cover Monday’s press conference as my family and I sat in I-5 traffic on the way home from a wedding. Fun fact: Shane once worked for the Globe Gazette, the largest newspaper in North Iowa.
SEATTLE — Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb opened Monday’s press conferences in cheerful fashion, ready to start one of the biggest weeks of his career by being peppered with questions.
“Good morning!” he said, to no audible response.
“You guys never say good morning back,” Grubb said in mock-hurt fashion, prompting a loud “Good morning coach!” from the writers huddled behind their respective keyboards.
Grubb replied: “It’s Duck Week, come on!”
It’s Duck Week, the annual football party where the Huskies take on their most heated and hated rival, Oregon. But Duck Week is even more special than usual this year.
