Washington scrimmage thoughts, and putting the Huskies' big NFL Draft in perspective
The Huskies scrimmaged again on Saturday, and saw three more former teammates get drafted.
SEATTLE — Between Washington’s second scrimmage of the spring — held at a gray, cold, rainy Husky Stadium — and the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft, there was plenty to monitor on Saturday. So let’s get right into our observations of it all.
The first possession of the day for the No. 1 offense was the most impressive for any unit on that side of the ball. Will Rogers completed passes for solid gains to Denzel Boston and Giles Jackson, and Jonah Coleman capped it with a 13-yard touchdown run, dragging a tackler with him across the goal line.
Jackson showed his sure hands on a couple of plays Saturday, such as Rogers’ 14-yard completion to him on a slant with Dyson McCutcheon in coverage. He also had a hard time finding any room to run on a couple screen passes, with the defense doing a good job bottling those up.
Daniyel Ngata ripped off a 20-yard run, the longest of the day, and withstood Jordan Shaw’s strip attempt as he tackled him from behind. Ngata later left practice with an injury, but coach Jedd Fisch said he’s fine.
